Dr Connolly holds a M.D. from McGill University in Montreal, Canada. He received his specialist training in cardiology at the University of Toronto in Canada and at Stanford University in the United States.
Dr Connolly is a practicing clinical cardiologist and Electrophysiologist. He is division director for cardiology at McMaster University.
His main research interest is evaluation of treatments for management of heart rhythm disorders. He has designed and implemented > 25 randomised clinical trials. Among the studies of which he was the principal investigator are the Canadian Atrial Fibrillation Anticoagulation (CAFA) Study, The Canadian Amiodarone Myocardial Infarction Arrhythmiai Trial (CAMIAT), the Canadian Implantable Defibrillator Study (CIDS), The Canadian Trial of Physiologic Pacing (CTOPP) and two Vasovagal Pacemaker Studies (VPS –1 and VPS-2). Dr. Connolly is principal investigator of the Atrial Fibrillation Clopidogrel Trial With Irbesartan For Prevention Of Vascular Events
Dr Connolly has published more than 180 scientific articles over his career and is currently a member of the editorial boards for Heart, the American Heart Journal and the Journal of Pacing and Electrophysiology.
